I will write a story every week explaining the rules of how the Quran should be read. This lesson covers what is tajweed and the principles of tajweed. May Allah accept this.

What is Tajweed?

Tajweed is an Arabic word meaning correct pronunciation during recitation. It is a set of rules which dedicate the rules of how the Quran should be read.

Why the need for the Tajweed rules?

The most important part of Tajweed is learning about the correct positions of the organs of speech and the manner of articulation. The Quran can lose its meaning if the letters are not pronounced correctly.

Example: Heart and dog

The first letters are similar in pronunciation in Arabic, but if not pronounced correctly will change the word and its meaning completely.

Tajweed is not intended to be about just learning rules and committing them to memory, but rather the correct application of those rules while reciting the Quran.
